Is it too early for...

Christmas stuff? Maybe a little, huh? I couldn't resist though. Merry Christmas a little early.

I had begged Mom to order these 3D Countdown Calendars from Karen Foster and surprisingly she actually got them. (She doesn't listen to me very often. I could go on for hours about the many times we've argued over conversations we've had or, in her opinion, we've never had.)

For years I've said I wanted to make an advent calendar for Drew and I just never got around to it. Finally I got around to it but now I've got to think of fun things to put in each box. I don't really want to do candy but instead maybe a different Christmas activity. If you've got any must do kid friendly activities let me know!

Hi Allison,

This is a great idea for everyone. I have bought little dollar tree mini ideas like playdough, yo-yo's, slinky's, fake money, cars, motorcycles, chapstick, balloons, whistle, etc. They have all kinds of cool things. What my kids and I do is cut green/red strips of paper and they write things they want to do during December then I add some they don't see and we make a chain out of them and they take turns pulling one off in the morning and we do that activitiy. The deal is it has to be cheap, easy, local, etc. Some days it's to read christmas books, drink hotchocolate, make cookies, draw winter pictures, call someone and say hi, send out cards, etc. we never get tired of doing this and as they get older they think of new, neater ideas to do. Hope this helps, thanks for blogging a lot lately.

For our advent calendar my mom always did a scavenger hunt. We'd open the advent calendar box and there would be our first clue. the clues would lead us all over the house and yard and the last clue would lead us to our prize or treat. The prizes and treats were always small (pencils, notebooks etc) it was more about the adventure rather than the prize. My mom was a smart one too, we could do the scavenger hunt in the morning before school if we woke up and didn't complain, got ready, had hair and teeth brushed etc. early. If we took too long or we complained about getting up too much, we had to wait the agonizing seven hours for school to be over before we could do our advent calendar scavenge hunt. Maybe your kids will like a scavenger hunt, that way you can still get small gifts from the dollar store but the fun is still in the hunt!

I love the scavenger hunt idea! That would be something Drew would love and I'm sure Jackson would have fun following Drew!

What a great childhood memory! Thanks so much for sharing it! :)

to the Hunters who left the comment about a scavenger hunt that is a good idea. I might have to do something like that with mine, they love looking for things, thanks for a fun idea. I'm sure Drew would love to do that it would be fun for a four year old boy.

I think you should put a picture of me in at least one of the boxes.

Dec 16 can be declared Stacey Day in the Davis house. You can come hang with kids while I take a nap. Sounds awesome to me!
