Sketch Week, Day 1

A new month, a new sketch and three new layouts. It is time for Sketch Week!

Each month I'll be using the free download sketch that you can find in the Scrapbook Generation online store. (For those of you that don't know: On the third Tuesday of the month we introduce a bunch of new sketches both as individuals and as groups of sketches that you can download for a small price. We also offer a free sketch each month. I'll post all information for the new April downloads tomorrow.) Today you are getting an advanced look at the free sketch since it is the sketch I'm using for Sketch Week.

This month the free download is a one-page sketch.

Scrapbook Generation's Free April Sketch
*available for download on Tuesday, April 16
 "Hanging With Jeremy"

Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Fancy Pants; Stickers: Fancy Pants: Alphabet stickers: Fancy Pants: Chipboard alphabet: American Crafts; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink; Embroidery floss: DMC

I followed the sketch very closely with just a few minor changes to fit what I was working with.

Variation #1 - I used journaling strips instead of journaling directly onto the background piece as suggested on the sketch. I tend to use journaling strips a lot. I not only like the way they look but I also how they can wrap around elements on the page and form to any design.

Variation #2 - I condensed the journaling down a lot. I just didn't need the large amount of journaling space as on the sketch. I tried to somewhat center the title and journaling so that I had equal spacing from the top of the journaling strips to the top of the background piece and from the bottom of the title to the bottom of the background piece. Sometimes I can be a little OCD about spacing. It doesn't have to be perfect by any means but I do try to keep a nice balance to everything.

Variation #3 - Instead of the hearts and arrows I used a mustache and stars.

So happy it's sketch week again!

We just returned from Disney and loved it. So different going this time with older kids, just as tiring but still good. They even liked getting the autographs when we could. The weather was sunny and hot all week, hoping it hurry's up and warms up here in Ohio.
Looking forward to another great week with you!

Love this sketch and can't wait to use it! Great layout, love the interaction between Jackson & Jeremy...cute! Did you print the main photos as a collage or are they mounted on cardstock? It looks like a dark grey border between them...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Laura, they are mounted on cardstock and I inked the edges of the photos. :)
