Sketch Support NSD blog hop

Happy National Scrapbook Day!

If you are following the blog hop from Sketch Support and have traveled from the blog of the fabulously talented Tammy Tutterow, I'm the last stop of the day. If you are starting here you might want to go back to Sketch Support and start at the beginning so you don't miss the other blogs.

Two-page Sketch #12

If you would like to print this sketch visit Sketch Support for the full version with the measurements and placements.

Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Cosmo Cricket, KI Memories, and Pink Paislee; Jewel flourish: Prima; Alphabets: Cosmo Cricket (surprise) and American Crafts (visit); Border strip: Doodlebug; Word sticker: October Afternoon; Paint: Ranger

Variation #1 - I used smaller photos in place of the 5 x 3 1/2 photos. Almost all of my photos where vertical so I couldn't get the 5" width out of them. I still went with the same rectangle group of photos on the right page, I just used smaller sizes.

Variation #2 - I ended up removing the background rectangle. A lot of times I like to keep the papers to a minimum to help the photos stand out. (I get in trouble for this at work sometimes!) With Jackson's plaid outfit I was having a hard time finding a paper that didn't look too busy. I finally decided that removing that piece would be the easiest solution for me.

Variation #3 - I went with only a small scallop strip in a smaller area on the layout instead of stretching all the way across the layout.

We each are answering the simple, yet fitting question for National Scrapbook Day: Why do you scrapbook?

Because I have always loved creating things. Speaking for myself, a life without creating would be boring. Writing, scrapbooking, designing, making home decor, taking pictures, making cupcakes, even making a list of the things I want to make is a delight.  I can already see that Drew is going to follow in my footsteps. I recognize that same look I had when I was thinking, "What can I make next?" He always has to be making something. For teacher appreciation week he wanted to get his teacher a Nintendo DS. When I explained to him that I don't think that's the direction we are going to go, he said "I know what to do! I'll make her one!" And he did.

Because it's a great excuse for "Mommy Time". Let's face it. Kids can be exhausting and every Mom in the world needs some time to herself. After a long day I love that I can escape to my Mom cave/scrapbook room and get an instant relaxed feeling when I open (and shut) the door.

Because I love that I'm documenting our life. Mike used to think that my scrapbooking and picture taking was ridiculous. Now that he sees just how quickly the boys are growing up, how much they change, and how much we forget, he understands and fully supports it. At first, Mike was convinced that the boys wouldn't care about the pages I made or the stories I told but he soon realized that he was so wrong. Just the other day all four of us cuddled up in bed and looked through scrapbooks and we all had a great time.

It just wouldn't be a blog hop with a giveaway! At Sketch Support we've got "The Ultimate Scrapbook Generation Kit Club Sampler" and here I've got a similar giveaway. The winner will get a collection of some past kits from my two kit clubs, Boy Crazy and Hall of Fame (details below) and a copy of Sketches for Scrapbooking!

March Hall of Fame Page kit - includes the materials to create a two-page layout with My Mind's Eye products, a color photo of the layout, and directions.

April Hall of Fame Page kit - includes the materials to create a two-page layout with Echo Park products, a color photo of the layout, and directions.

February Boy Crazy kit - includes the materials to create a two-page boy themed layout with BasicGrey products and a sketch.

March Boy Crazy kit - includes the materials to create a two-page boy themed layout with My Mind's Eye and a sketch.

April Boy Crazy kit - includes the materials to create a two-page boy themed layout with My Mind's Eye and a sketch.

That's three sketches and the materials to make five two-page layouts!

To be eligible for the giveaway leave a comment and I'll announce the winner on Monday. And if you've hit every blog on the hop and left a comment or you've completed the scavenger hunt make sure you head over to Sketch Support to let us know!

Totally can relate to the husband comment. He used to wonder why I enjoyed scrapping so much. Now, when he looks at my pages or sees the boys looking at their albums, he'll say: I forgot how little they were, or they get that look on their face from their grandpa. Makes it all worthwhile. Also, getting to spend time with friends cropping is a great stress relief! Thanks for the blog hop!

I enjoyed reading all the reasons you like to scrapbook and can relate. Now that my wonderful husband of 40 years has retired, I can add one more - a little quiet time. He's glad I have something I can enjoy and will help out whenever I ask. But, the best part is how much he seems to enjoy what I create. I owe a lot of that creative process to you and your team. Thank You!

Love the LO! My husband thought the same about scrapping at first! My oldest turns 10 this weekend and I have been so far behind. Ever since I got your sketch books (only have 3 so far) I have gotten so much more done. I have done far more collecting those 10 years than scrapping but am finally in a "groove" thanks to you! Happy NSD!!!

IT's the first NSD that I've missed in 5 years. Just wanted to say hello and thank you and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. Tell your mom the same thing, she is a wonderful mom. Tell your sister and aunt good wishes to them too and hugs for all of you. Hope it's a great day and please tell us more about yur cupcakes next week.

I started out doing digital scrapbooking. Then my husband saw a "real" scrapbook. He said, "you have to do this." So doing it, I have been, for the last 5 years. We've added two more girls and I am. so. behind!

Scrapbooking is time with my friends,me time, and a time to record memories. I love looking at pictures and recording the story behind the pictures. My boys (5 and 2) love looking at them already and even my husband agress. He sounds a lot like Mike! He laughed at my hobby and now fully supports it and enjoys looking back at what we have done as a family. Time goes by too quickly and this is my way of making it pause. Thanks for another great Blog Hop Allison! Happy Mother's Day!

Allison, you have such a nack for picking the right paper to go with your pictures. Love the layout and that you still use bling with the boys. Enjoyed the hop and the scavenger hunt. Thanks.

Fiona said...

as always your layouts are the perfect blend of artistic creativity and design "balance" - I also love that you have two boys and still find a way to incorporate flowers and "girly" elements from time to time! I have two little boys and sometimes think it is hard to scrapbook and keep it "masculine".

thanks for the giveaways - I never win anything but who knows! maybe this time?

Thanks for putting this blog together. It was so much fun. I didn't get to gather for a NSD crop this weekend with it falling on Mom's Day but it was fun to take some time and do your blog hop (I actually went through it twice...once really quick like a sneak peak and then slowly the second pass). My son, like yours, also seems to have the creative bug... the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.
