Sketch Week, Day 2

Day two is here and since we added the new March downloads to the Scrapbook Generation online store you can go grab the free March sketch. The free sketch is the same sketch that I'm using as a starting point for my layouts this week. If you haven't had a chance yet, you can also check out the other March downloads that I posted about yesterday.

"Pawsitively Adorable"

Supplies - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper: We R Memory Keepers; Stickers: We R Memory Keepers; Alphabets: My Little Shoebox and American Crafts; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink; Dog bone clips: unknown; Embroidery floss: DMC

Variation #1 - The biggest change I made for this layout is the pictures. All of the photos that I wanted to use were vertical 4 x 6" photos instead of the suggested horizontal 6 x 4" photos.

On the left page I had to make sure that I didn't lose the space for the title so I lowered the picture. I also added a photo mat to help that photo stand out. Because the width of the photo is the same as the strip behind it (4") it looked a little odd and the picture was getting a little lost. The mat was an easy solution.

On the right page I didn't need to do much since the two 4 x 6" photos filled the space of the photos on the sketch very closely. There is a slight difference in both the height (a 1" difference) and width (a 2" difference) but it isn't enough to need to adjust anything to fit the differences.

Variation #2 - I switched the title/embellishment up a little. I moved the embellishment (the hearts on the sketch) to the left of the title (the paws). The banner came down low enough on the top right side near the picture that I didn't want to cover it up with an embellishment.

Variation #3 - I pretty much followed the same banner as on the sketch but I added in a few dog bone clips to fit the theme of my layout. I also used dog paws in place of the hearts on the sketch.

Be sure to check back Friday for the last layout I have created based on the free March sketch and then Monday to see who has won the download giveaway.

Love how you switched up the picture orientation, I always have such a hard time veering away from the original sketch.

I think my favorite thing about this are those cute paperclips! And the placement on them of the banner is fantastic! I also like the extra, smaller strips of paper on the banner too. Good use of 4x6 photos, too. I love this!

Thank you so much for the nice comments everyone! The girl who painted Jackson's face was so sweet. That design wasn't even on her poster of options but she did what he wanted anyway.

Mary Ann, I totally forgot to put that in my supply list! It's from a set of puppy stickers from Doodlebug. It is actually part of a larger corner flourish and I just cut off the little piece I needed for my page. :)
