Sketch Week, Day 1

Sketch Week is here! I look forward to this week every month! And, have you heard about SG's new magazine debuting in January? There is going to be even more sketches and layouts each month. You can read all about on the Scrapbook Generation blog.

If you are new to Sketch Week here's a little run down of how it works:

Each month I'll be using the free download sketch that you can find in the Scrapbook Generation online store. (On the third Tuesday of the month we introduce a bunch of new sketches both as individuals and as groups of sketches that you can download for a small price. We also offer a free sketch each month. I'll post all information for the new August downloads tomorrow.) Today you are getting an advanced look at the free sketch since it is the sketch we are using for Sketch Week.

I'll be posting layouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and will have links throughout the week to more blogs sharing layouts based on the free sketch. Today the talented Katrina Hunt has a fun two-page layout to share. You can check it out by visiting here blog here:

This month the free download is a two-page sketch.

Scrapbook Generation's Free September Sketch
*available for download on Tuesday, September 17

 "My Cool Dude"

Supplies - Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper: BoBunny, Crate Paper, Little Yellow Bicycle; Chipboard star: unknown; Star punch: Fiskars; Brads: Doodlebug and unknown; Baker's Twine: The Twinery; Alphabets: American Crafts; Word stickers: October Afternoon; Embroidery floss: DMC

I stayed very close to the sketch for this layout.

Variations #1 - The only thing I did differently than the sketch was used different sizes of stars. I still followed the same general arrangement. I had a piece of patterned paper that had a stars that were perfect for cutting out and they just so happened to be the perfect color of blue to match the blue on Jackson's sunglasses. The stars were all the same size so I didn't use as many different sizes as the sketch suggests.

I used a large "naked" chipboard star with twine tied on it for the larger star.

I added brads and words to the smaller stars.

He is seriously loving school! He is so eager to be independent and I've seen him really lose a lot of his shyness already. I have to admit that his want for independence is hard for me (he's my baby!) but, at the same time I'm so proud of him for jumping in and doing so well. His teacher actually emailed me last week to tell me that he was a very kind and responsible little boy and that he was a great role model for his class. I was so proud! :)

LOVE-love-LOVE this sketch Allison. It is so good. And SO versatile for so many spreads.

Your colors are dynamic and your accent pieces are just as always- outstanding.

Thanks for another great FREE sketch. You rock and so does this layout.

I am dealing with the independence thing too right now. My little girl is so close to getting her permit. It scares and excites me at the same time. yikes!

Oh, great! Another 2-pager. They're my favorites to get a lot of scrapping done in a hurry.

Did you ink the naked big star? Love the way it looks.
