Sketch Week, Day 2

Yesterday was download day so if you haven't had a chance yet make sure you go grab the September free sketch at the Scrapbook Generation online store. It's the sketch that I'm using as my starting point for all the layouts this week.

Day two of Sketch Week bring three layouts! One from me and more from two very talented women, Ruth Bonser and Jennifer Larson. You can check out the layouts they made based on the free sketch by visiting their blogs via the links below. Also, if you didn't get a chance yet to visit Katrina's blog and see her layout you can find the link below too.

"Time To Celebrate"

Supplies - Cardstock: American Crafts: Patterned paper: Simple Stories; Stickers: Simple Stories; Alphabets: Simple Stories (time to) and American Crafts (celebrate); Embroidery floss: DMC; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink

Variation #1 - I happened to have one photo that didn't really lend itself well to being cropped to the suggested 3 x 4" size on the sketch. Since a 6 x 4" photo has the same measurements as two 3 x 4" photos I didn't have to make any adjustments to include that larger photo.

That's why I love using 3 x 4" and 6 x 4" photos! If I want to include more photos I can just split a 6 x 4" into 3 x 4" photos and if I want to include a larger photo I can just substitute a 6 x 4" for two 3 x 4" photos. It's so easy!

Variation #2 - I changed a lot on the bottom of the sketch. I cut the banners from a piece of patterned paper (it took awhile!) and adhered them to bottom in place of the banner strips on the sketch. I loved the way the banners looked on the patterned paper but the only way I could make it work on my page was to hand cut them.

I added a few details to the banners like hand stitching along the "string" on the banners and bows on the numbers banner.

I also added some star and word stickers to the banners.

To make room for the banners I had to move the rest of the layout up a little. I try to have somewhat equal margins a lot of the time (it all depends on the design). I wanted the margins from the top of the design to the top of the layout to be close to the same as the margin from the bottom of the design (the banners) to the bottom of the layout. I don't measure it or try to get it perfect, just somewhat balanced.

Variation #3 - I combined both a journaling block with journaling strip. I'm not a big fan of my own handwriting and tend to go with computer journaling. Since I used a journaling block cut out of patterned paper and I didn't want to use my own handwriting, I just printing journaling strip and adhered them to the block.

Be sure to check back on Thursday and Friday to see more Sketch Week layouts! And, don't forget about the giveaway! You can find the info for the giveaway in the post from Monday - Sketch Week, Day 1
