Where did all this stuff come from?

Most likely, Scrapbook Generation. But how did I get so much? My room is literally overflowing with scrapbooking supplies.

Last week, after a few months of cleaning neglect I decided that since things had slowed down a little I should really take the time to clean my room. I hadn't seen the carpet in at least a month. Let's just say, it was not an easy task and one that required many, many hours.

Usually after cleaning my room I feel a sudden rush of creativity. Something about a clean space is always inviting. This time it wasn't. My room is clean but completely unorganized. The overflow of supplies is "organized" in piles all over the place. I have got to get a better organizational system in here. It's time to rid myself of the things I don't use and get this room into shape!

If you have an organizational tips or something that works great for you, I would love to hear it. Cardstock, patterned paper, chipboard, adhesives... anything. It's time for this room to get a makeover!

I buy the plastic drawers (set of three in a container on wheels). You can get them shallow or deep. The shallow ones have my cardstock scraps by colors. The deper ones have my more bulky items like punches, ribbons, misc. items. I also have a book shelf for stamp sets and smaller containers to hold items such as glitter and scissors. But for all my organization, I would gladly exchange my clean space for your creativity!

I like to keep my stuff in the 12x12 iris containers. I like to buy the entire line of a product (ie: Lemongrass by Crate Paper). I keep all of those things together in an iris container, including matching cardstock and any usable pieces of scraps. I tend to choose a single line of products to scrap like layouts for the year(Wassail for Christmas this year), so when I am scrapping my Christmas layouts I just pull out my Christmas iris container and get to work. I do add bits from other lines in to keep things interesting, such as some of the Making Memories Christmas embellishments, so I keep those in with my stuff, too. I use my cricut a lot, but I also use thickers and other rub-ons and stickers. I keep all of those in a basket that I can sift through to find what I need. I am thinking of getting a clip-it-up for those. I also have iris containers based upon themes, such as my "boy" layout papers for my 3 year old. Right now it has stuff from Piggy Tales Iron Soldier line, Cosmo Cricket, and other stuff. I have a fall layout container with Lemongrass, Scenic Route's Salem line, and some of Basic Grey's Offbeat.

Of course, I keep my Scrapbook Generation Sketches books handy, and all of the CK's that have your layouts in them. I admit that sometimes I copy your layouts, and other times I use them as a jumping off point for my own...to help inspire my own creativity! :)

I can honestly say I have a place for everything and like having stuff where it's close to me and I can see what I have easily-or I wont use it. I have a lot of the six drawer rolling carts (Hobby lobby w/ a coupon)and 3 dwr sets-walmart. I have a drawer 4 each category (baby, birthday, christmas, wedding, vacation etc) that stkrs/rubons etc go in and they are labeled it's easier to put away stuff each time I shop too(which is too often!)My paper is in cropperhopper by color for patterns or manufac 4 sets. I also use artbins to store albums/page groups i'm wrkin on. I also use baskets labeled w/ other goodies--I get the 2 shelf bookcases@ walmart ($12) and place them side by side on my desktop to hold (3) the baskets. Sorry I'm rambling--I could organize all day!lol

I just saw that anonymous mentioned a clip it up-I have something on craigslist in arts and crafts she may like--I used it like a clip it up but it holds a lot more stuff. Just an FYI ; )

I think the one thing that works best for me is to simply buy what I'll use and use what I buy. Other than that, I really love the el cheapo silverware organizer I bought at Target. Fits in my top desk drawer and holds tools and pens that I might not use everyday. It's also awesome for the Colorbox cat eye inks. They fit right in on their sides. Love the Making Memories turnstile caddy too. That holds my essentials. And the Clip It Up, which holds everything from threads to alpha stickers to chipboard. I just don't like that it's so huge. Very helpful, but huge.

Paper storage > cropper hopper verticle storage. rattan silverware organizer to hold misc stuff and fits well in my shelf. 2 metal baskets to fit my stamps. 2 Iris 4-drawers to house my stamp inks, punches, misc supplies (foam brushes, blades, sandpaper, misc), some embellishments and sorts. my craft space is in a corner of my kids room as we live in a 2-bed apartment.

Let me know what you find out. I eventually got so tired of looking at it strung all over the place, that I have been packing it all up in boxes so I can go through each one and hopefully get everything organized. I hate organizing. I think I might have a touch of a.d.d
Good luck.

I just recently found a new use for empty formula cans. I recover them with pretty paper and label them for my smaller supplies. For example, I have one labeled "bling" that has all my sugar glitter. I have some of the big tubs that each hold ribbons, flowers, buttons, and so forth. I like the idea of recycling for organization instead of buying new things.

Peg board for the things that hang and big plastic bins for the things that don't.
My ribbon is all colour sorted and in glass jars on the windowsill as are all my blossoms.
Paper shelves for all my paper.

That said I still can't see the table top or floor most of the time ;)

LOL! I did the same thing and posted a blog about it as well early this morning. I feel as though I need help as well. I hope you find what is going to work for you:)
