Sketch Week, Day 3

"My Little Mustache Man"

Variation #1 - On Wednesday I talked about the easy way to use a one-page sketch for a two-page layout by using one side as the original sketch and then creating your own photo block for the other page. Today, I'm sharing a slightly more complicated way to get a two-page layout out of one-page sketch. And by complicated I don't mean hard. I just mean that it takes a little more thought and planning this way.

 

I stretched the design of the sketch to fit on two pages. I stretched the first and second larger background pieces. I didn't worry too terribly much about them being perfectly proportioned to the sketch but instead worked with what I wanted to use. It still has the same general idea as the sketch.

 

Variation #2 - I added more strips. Since I was stretching the design across two pages I decided to stretch the strips too. I liked the opportunity to include more colors/patterns on my layout. Another way I could have stretched the strips is by only using the three strips the sketch recommends but using wider ones like 2" or 3".

Variation #3 - I used larger pictures. To make this easier and faster, I just wanted to use standard 4 x 6" photos. Since I used larger photos I did have to make a few adjustments to other elements on the page but nothing so major that it required more time or effort. 

Variation #4 - I moved the journaling over to the left side of the layout. Since it wouldn't fit under the pictures like it does on the sketch, I had to move it somewhere. I thought the left side would work to help balance out the title and embellishments on the right page.

Variation #5 - Instead of stitching on the strips, I stitched around the background. I also added a stitched mustache into the design of the border. 

 

Variation #6 - I removed the strip over the bottom of the background piece. Since I had larger photos I wasn't left with a large amount of space in that area. I also already planned on having my title in that area and didn't want any distracting pieces behind it. 

 

 

*For my embellishments I used rub-ons on paper and then cut out around them. I adhere them to the tops of toothpicks to resemble the cute little photo props made of sticks with mustaches on them.

I also added a top hat to the photo of Jackson. I thought it was so fitting with the mustache man title and I just couldn't resist how cute it looked on little Jackson with his mustache. I added a star and brad to embellish it a little too.
