Sketch Week, Day 1

It's time for my favorite week of the month, Sketch Week!

This week I'll so happy to have a few of my Sketch Support friends joining in during Sketch Week! This week you'll also get to see layouts from several scrapbookers! It's going to be a fantastic Sketch Week!

If you are new to Sketch Week here's a little run down of how it works:

Each month I'll be using the free download sketch that you can find in the Scrapbook Generation online store. (On the third Tuesday of the month we introduce a bunch of new sketches both as individuals and as groups of sketches that you can download for a small price. We also offer a free sketch each month. I'll post all information for the new August downloads tomorrow.) Today you are getting an advanced look at the free sketch since it is the sketch we are using for Sketch Week.

I'll be posting layouts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and will have links throughout the week to more blogs sharing layouts based on the free sketch.

This month the free download is a one-page sketch.

Scrapbook Generation's Free August Sketch
*available for download on Tuesday, August 20

"Time For School!"

Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Simple Stories; Stickers: Simple Stories; Alphabet stickers: Simple Stories; Brad: Simple Stories; Embroidery floss: DMC; Ink: Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink
This sketch was a great fit for the beginning page of our school album for this year. I kept the journaling super simple and just listed the details like the year, the school they go to (I smudged that out so it can't be seen. It's the one that looks blank.), and what grade they are both in.

Variation #1 - I didn't want to crop my photo down to a 4 x 4" because I would be cutting too close to Drew and Jackson. I liked the picture better without cropping it down.
Variation #2 - Since I ended up using a larger photo I adjusted the photo mat to fit. I did the same proportions as the sketch suggests with the first mat 1" larger (5 x 7 for my layout, 5 x 5 on the sketch) and then the second on 2" larger (6 x 8 for my layout, 6 x 6 on the sketch). I also added a smaller mat to frame the yellow. I did that just to get a little bit of the navy color on my layout.

Variation #3 - Because I had a larger photo and a larger mat I extended the background strips to the edges of the page. So little of it was showing if I didn't change it from the sketch and I wanted those background strips to be seen.

I also added an extra strip to the bottom.
Variation #4 - The two smaller photos on my page are different measurements than the sketch suggests.
My mom got me an Instax camera and both of my boys love having their picture taken with it. They think it's so cool that the picture pops right out of the top. On the first day of school they both requested that I take a picture with the Instax camera. I was delighted that these little instant pictures were so perfect for this sketch!

Variation #5 - Instead of the large heart on the picture I used a chipboard pencil, a crayon sticker, an apple sticker and a few word stickers.

More Sketch Week Layouts!

Today there are two blogs to visit with layouts based on the August sketch. I love everything these two girls do and am so happy that they are joining in on the Sketch Week fun!

I love how you used the smarty pants line for this cool back to school layout of our boys. I just bought a whole bunch of this line from the SG online store- yay! I enjoyed the story on your blog of the power of the tshirt to a kindergarten boy. Thanks for sharing...
