thirty one

Today is the day that I am officially "in" my thirties. I don't know how I feel about this. That's a whole new ballgame and much rougher than turning thirty. 31. IN my thirties. You know what Drew told me? "I'll still love you even though you're old."

The Good.

• My Grandma told me I was young.

• Even though I'm not feeling so young, I'm still the youngest in my family, on both sides. That is if you don't include all the little kids. Work with me here, I'm reaching.

• I'm younger than Kate Hudson, Jessica Simpson, Reese Witherspoon, and Katie Holmes. Of course they all look like they are 20 and will probably continue to look like they are 20 at age 50.

• I still sit at the "kids table" on Thanksgiving at my Grandpa's.

The Bad.

• I don't like that there are certain stores that have clothes I love but I feel like I'm too old to shop there.

• It's weird to think that I've actually almost been driving as long as I haven't.

• I considered entering a radio contest to win $1,000 of Botox.

The Ugly.

• When a 24-year-old girl said that she wasn't looking forward to 25 I really wanted to throw a heavy object at her head.

• I didn't even want a family birthday party this year. I was thinking along the lines of if we don't celebrate it, I don't actually have a birthday and I won't really turn 31.

• I think I'm turning into my mother.

In all seriousness, I'm not enjoying the thought of being 31 but really how bad could it be? I have two adorable boys that I love more than anything in the world. I have a husband that totally gets me and loves me anyway. I have a job that I actually enjoy. I have family that I have a blast spending time with.

Thirty-one might not be so bad after all. :)

I always say that you are as old as you act/feel. I am 45 and most people think I am 10-15 years younger. Not because I act childish, I just don't act old! So dust off your inner child and don't let a number stop you! I love that photo btw.

Happy birthday! I hear ya on the pro-s and cons! For me it wasn't hitting the 30 mark, it was getting two sister in laws who are WAY younger than me. I've never been the oldest (with friends or family) and now I am the 'older sister'! And older by 7 and 9 years! :-0

I thought turning 31 was tough too, for the same reasons. It was a hard transition. BUT...I'm with @Moongirl - I have younger friends that say I don't seem like I'm 41! (Yes, I'm now 10 years older than that!) Enjoy your family and your life and don't let a number stop you.

Happy Birthday! I had to giggle when I saw your image for today because I used the same one when I turned 31...we won't mention that it may have been a year and a half ago now! HA! As for the stores you feel too 'old' to shop at - I went through that ... and then I got over it and bought what worked for me because quite frankly I'm not an age, I'm a ME! And you are a YOU, so you can do the same thing! :-)

Oh Boy! Happy Birthday!
30 was my really rough birthday, until this year. I'll be 49 this August, and I'm not looking forward to it one little bit.

Happy Birthday! But talk to me about old when you turn 44 because that's what I'll be in a month! ;)

Seriously, though, you ARE only as old as you feel, so I agree with Jingle. Buy what you want and make it work for you. If it's one article of clothing, buy it. If it's a whole outfit, buy it!

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday!! I love what you wrote and believe me your about to have a great many years before you are old my friend. Those sweet boys of yours will keep you young and full of life and energy. It was fun reading all the comments here and I agree with them, wear what you want and just be happy for you. I will be 42 in a month so you can add me to the list of someone older then you.Hope it was a great day for you!!

Happy Birthday Allison! I had a chuckle about what your husband said, tell him that he's lucky to have a hot sexy wife!

And yes, I think I'm turning into my mother...lol.

I'm 35 and I still go into the "juniors" department to shop! Have fun at any age!

Tip: Try Bare Minerals bareVitamins, it makes me feel young! You'll have clear glowing skin everyday.

Happy Birthday. I turned 33 this year. Even though I know it is silly, I really hate it, lol. 30 was harder for me, 35 will be really hard! If I don't think about the number, then really the age is good. You start to realize what matters & what doesn't. I think you will enjoy your 30's, just don't think about it being your 30's, lol

Happy Birthday! I will be 33 this December and the other day someone asked how old Iwas and I actually had to stop and think about it. My two boys keep me busy and feeling young.

Take comfort in the fact that you'll always be my younger sister. Five years younger. If it makes you feel any better, you're going to get to laugh hysterically in a few short years when I cross over into a whole new set of numbers.

Oh, to be 31 again! Alas, that decade is gone...long gone.

That being said, I married a (slightly) older man (4 years) so, whenever I'm feeling old, I just remember that I'm not as old as him. LOL. I also joke that I never have to worry about him leaving me for a 'younger' woman because I'm already all the things he'd leave me for: young, blonde & have a 'rock'n' bod. LOL!

Enjoy your youth. You'll look back one day and long to be 'only' 31.

Happy Birthday! The 30's a great! At first I was ticked at being IN my 30's but now that I have a firm root IN my early 30's (I like to use early because it sounds better) I can definitely say I was worried about nothing :) Now 40's that scares the crap out of me :) Hope you had a great day!

Thank you so much for the wonderful happy birthday wishes! And for reminding me that it's just a number. I think just the thought of being in my thirties was kind of freaking me out but now that the day has come and gone and I realized it wasn't the end of the world, I am feeling pretty good. Plus I've got my older sister and older husband to make me feel young! (Love that outlook, Luv2talk!)

Happy Birthday! Thirty isn't all that bad. I just turned 31 this past spring and it felt like any other birthday, I look at it as one year wiser. But I know exactly how you feel, the thought that I've been driving for half of my life blew me away and the wanting to through a heavy object at someone I completely understand, mine was a 19 year old who thought turning 20 was over the hill. Seriously! The number I'm not looking forward to is 40 which my husband will be this September. I hope you had a great day.
