I had the opportunity to guest design for Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker this month and was excited to work with the new Noah collection. Being the mom of two boys, I'm always drawn to boyish themes and color combos and Nikki's was so fun to create with!
I was in the mood to go through some older photos when I came across a group of pictures of Drew, acting just like his daddy.
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper, cut outs, stickers, die cuts and alphabet stickers: Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker; star punch: Fiskars
For some reason, when I take pictures, both Drew and Mike tend to get a little pose-y-ish (so a not real word!) See that middle picture on my layout? Exactly like his dad. I feel like am I a looking at a four-year-old version of Mike. This is probably their most noticeable similarity - their picture posing style. A lot of it has to do with being silly, having confidence and being totally comfortable with who they are. I couldn't have hand picked better qualities for Drew to inherit and learn from his dad.
Here's a closer look at the layered strips and banners on my layout:
I feel like I should pass on a wonderful little tip I discovered in Creating Keepsakes magazine long ago. When using letter stickers you can cut out the negative of the letter from the sticker sheet to use. See the "A" and "D" in the word "Daddy"? I was all out of "D"s so I cut around the red frame that is left on the sticker sheet. It's an easy way to get more mileage out of those alphabet stickers!

Drew is taking over my blog for the day!
Since this week our kids have taken over Sketch Support as mini-guest designers, I thought I would let Drew take over my blog for a day. One thing I love about having a blog is that I have so many stories documented in one place for me and my family to enjoy. The boys love it when I read them stories from here and I thought it was the perfect opportunity for Drew to share a story of his own. We sat down and he told me exactly what to type. So, without further ado, I introduce you to the uncensored blog post by my five-year-old, Drew.
I am Drew and I am five. My room is cool. My baby brother is moving in. He's sometimes mean but that's okay. You get used to it.
I'm going to show you the scrapbook page I made about my dog Abbey.
I have a question for you. Who knows who the two dogs I left out on my scrapbook page? It's Chewy and Oscar! Chewy is kind of a stinker and Oscar, if you corner him tries to bite but daddy is the problem solver and tells Oscar, "bad dog!" I don't play with Oscar.
You know that I made a scrapbook page. Well, here's the deal on what I made. Pictures of Abbey and me. One picture is of me putting a flower on Abbey's nose to make her sniff it. But, guess what else? I put doggie stickers on my page. One's a fire hydrant, one small doggie bone, a dog bowl and a dog house with a ball next to it. You might know that Abbey is a sweet heart.
Thank you for looking at my scrapbook page!
The end.

Attention getter
After two sold out sessions last fall I'll be teaching Sketch Support, the online class, again this Spring. And right now if you hop over to Sketch Support, the site, we have a giveaway for two seats to the class. You'll find more information about the class and the giveaway details there.
So it's two-page week at Sketch Support. I don't like to play favorites but I will always love two-page week just a little more than the others. I'm a two-page girl at heart! This month the sketch has a fun little grid of stars on the left page similar to the one on my page below.
I'm so all over the place when it comes to scrapbooking. I jump from pictures I took two days ago to pictures from when Drew was a baby. Last week I got out one of my many photo storage containers from back in the old age when I used film. These things are huge and fit like thousands of photos and I always find a surprise photo or two as I go through them.
This time I found these pictures of Drew digging in the backyard. I had completely forgotten about them and can't believe that I did. The one of him yelling is one of my all time favorites of him. It's just so him. He randomly makes noises, a lot of time screams, when he wants attention. He's an attention lovin' little guy and I would be lying if I didn't admit that sometimes it can be a little, um, I hate to say it...
aggravating.
He craves attention all. the. time. And, believe me, he gets attention, but you would think from the way he acts that we sit on the couch and ignore him all day. A lot of it stems from Jackson joining the Davis crew. That's when it really flared up. He can't stand for Jackson to get any attention. Drew can be in the other room and if I say something to Jackson, Drew will yell some random statement like, "Mom, um I like my um, um, my Spider-man pjs."
I've also tried to explain to him that making random "ahhhhs" and "peeeeeeeeps" and "raaaaaawwwrs" don't always work in his favor. Especially when Mom is on the phone. Or how saying, "I guess I'll go jump on the bed..." while I'm trying to make dinner doesn't exactly do the trick. He's just addicted to being the center of attention and will go to extreme measures to get it. Kind of makes me nervous for the teen years.
But, I would also be lying if I didn't admit that I kind get a kick out of it too. It's part of his personality and you never know what he'll do. Like the times he'll burst out in dance moves that you can't help but to laugh at. Or when he sings a song he made up on the spot. Sometimes it turns into super sweet moments. Like those times that he gives me random hugs and tells me "Mom, you are the sweetest girl in the world." I ignore the fact that he most likely wants something and soak up the moment.
